General FAQ -

Can Racemi move my x86 server to Itanium or SPARC?
No. Racemi can move images between different brands of chips, such as Intel (TM) to AMD (TM), but the underlying chipsets must have binary compatibility for applications. Moves between different types of hypervisors, such as Xen to VMware, are fine and work as documented.
How long does it take to deploy an image to a server?
Deployment times are highly variable and depend on things like network bandwidth, throughput, disk IO and CPU speed for the server being provisioned and so forth. A benchmark deploy to provision a 10 GB VM in the same data center as the image library is 15 to 25 minutes. Deploying a very large image over a WAN or a slow/busy LAN can take an hour or more.
Is Racemi's Migration Similar to VMotion?
Yes and no. Racemi’s VxV migration gives you the ability to do a live capture of a virtual system, but does not lock step the processing in real time. Instead, it creates and stores the image captured from the live system and makes it available for single or repeated deploy to any platform. V-motion is a native, VMware-only tool designed for optimization and scaling in single-LAN, SAN-only homogeneous environments. Racemi supports heterogeneous environments and enables a broader set of use cases, including migration from one hypervisor platform to another.
